How are your signals timed?

EM, NEMA, whatever - if it controls a traffic signal, you can talk about it here.

How are your signals timed?

Postby 3Mfanatic on Mon May 27, 2013 1:01 am

I was curious to see what runs everybody's displays so I came up with this. It's pretty simple, follow what I've done here. Not sure if we'll have enough bandwidth for Jerry's display. :tease:

Controller: Eagle EF-20 electromechanical
Dial Length - If applicable: 70 seconds

Main Street Phase Crouse Hinds DT & Singer/CH 12/8/8
Green: 38 seconds
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clear: 2 seconds

Cross Street Phase 3M M-131 & TCT 12" (Type R molds)
Green: 20 seconds
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clear: 2 seconds

Feel free to add Main/Cross left turn phases, peds, overlaps, etc. as needed. :hello:

Controller: Arduino + Solid State Relays
Dial Length - Not a dial but the total time is 50 seconds

Main Street Phase Checker 12" + Econo 9" ped (Alusig 12" with arrow planned)
Green: 30 seconds
Yellow: 3 seconds
Red Clear: 2 seconds
Walk: 15 seconds
Don't Walk: 8 1-second flashes and 7 seconds solid

Cross Street Phase CH AD + Econo 8"
Green: 10 seconds
Yellow: 3 seconds
Red Clear: 2 seconds
Planned Green Arrow: 10 seconds
Planned Yellow Arrow: 3 seconds

After 4 cycles, it switches to preemption mode with Main getting a yellow flash and Cross + Main's Don't Walk getting a red flash for 30 seconds, then it starts back at the top.

I hope we have enough bandwidth for mine!

Lets see:
Basic Timing

Phase 1/Overlap I (Left Turn Cross Street):
Minimum Green: 2 seconds
Passage/Extension: 1.5 seconds
Maximum Green #1: 11 seconds
Maximum Green #2 (5PM-630PM): 18 seconds
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clearance: 2 seconds

Phase 2 (Thru Cross Street):
Minimum Green: 7 seconds
Passage/Extension: 2.5 seconds
Maximum Green #1: 25 seconds
Maximum Green #2 (5PM-630PM): 40 seconds
Dynamic Maximum: 30 seconds
Dynamic Step: Every 2 calls extends the maximum time
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clearance: 2 seconds

Walk Time: 7 seconds
Flashing Dont Walk Time: 14 seconds

Phase 3 (Left Turn Main Street Protected Interval):
Minimum Green: 2 seconds
Passage/Extension: 2.0 seconds
Maximum Green #1: 10 seconds
Maximum Green #2 (5PM-630PM): 18 seconds
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clearance: 2 seconds

Phase 4 (Thru Main Street):
Minimum Green: 12 seconds
Passage/Extension: N/A
Maximum Green #1: 30 seconds
Maximum Green #2 (5PM-630PM): 45 seconds
Yellow: 4 seconds
Red Clearance:2 seconds

Walk Time: 10 seconds
Flashing Dont Walk Time: 22 seconds

Phase 8(Left Turn Main Street Permissive:

*Overlaps with Phase 4*
Advanced Control Stuff Keeping it brief
10:00PM-8:30AM: Flash mode
8:30AM-5:00PM: Normal Operation
5:00PM-6:30PM: Rush Hour Operation (FYA permissive interval omitted)
6:30PM-10:00PM: Normal operation

Detectors set to Lock On with no delay
Phases Pairs Reversed....like how they do it here in Michigan. Left Turns are last to cycle so Phasing is structured in this order: 2,1,4,3

Dial/Split Coord Data 2/1/1: 75 seconds, 3/1/1: 100 seconds

Coord Timing operates when a specific volume of calls occurs within a certain time frame. Traffic Responsive Coordination.

I could go more in depth but I'm sure most of you are asleep by now

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: If it was an EPAC controlling that phase 1 would be 999 seconds for Min and Max. 99.9 seconds for extension, yellow and red!

...and then dwell the phase!

Controller: Marbelite M-30 19C electro-mechanical
Dial Length: 60 seconds

My Ruleta is the only traffic signal that is currently controlled by the signal controller.

Phase 1
Green: 50 seconds
Overlap (red and green): 1 second
Red clearance: 2 seconds

Phase 2
Green: 40 seconds
Overlap (red and green): 1 second
Red clearance: 2 seconds

Controller: General Traffic Equipment 301 19NYC electro-mechanical
Dial Length: 90 seconds

I used to have several signals controlled by this one. Though, since I had to sell most of them, only two
pedestrian signals (Marbelite LPS-20 and Winko-Matic VI 2L AG) now continue to function. In any case, I'll explain the old sequence, since it is still in use.

Phase 1
Green: 30 seconds
Walk: 20 seconds
F.D.W.: 10 seconds
Amber: 2 seconds
Red clearance: 1 second

Phase 2
Green: 30 seconds
Amber: 2 seconds
Red clearance: 1 second

Phase 3 (in synchronization with phase 2)
Protected left turn green arrow: 35 seconds

Phase 4
Green: 25 seconds
Walk: 15 seconds
F.D.W.: 10 seconds
Amber: 2 seconds
Red clearance: 1 second
