Books that you've bought because of signal pictures

Postby traffictechgreg on Mon Nov 12, 2012 6:17 pm

I was wondering if any other club members out there have a habit of buying books because of good signal pix inside?

I picked up a copy of Charlotte then and now at Ollies Bargain outlet. Other of my favorite titles are the Orlando, Dallas, Washington, Minneapolis and Atlanta ones
http://thunderbaybooks.com/PublicStore/Custom/ThenAndNow.aspx

The images of AMerica series also tend to provide good historical pix, I just picked up this one at Barnes and Noble last week - it has an interesting picture of a 4 section multi sider from the 1920's in Upper Darby among others http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/9780738592442/West-Chester-Pike, and I learned alot of historic information about a road I travel almost every day

Any one else have any good recommended titles ?

I bought one that had to do with Baltimore's street cars....... :Phil:

"Baltimore and its Streetcars" -a pictorial review of the postwar years

By Herbert H. Harwood, Jr. copywrite 1984

It even has a picture of the Baltimore streetcar Museum........... :good:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Anything that has to do with Detroit in the "Images of America" series.

That equates to about $300.00.

The Images of America Series is not cheap, but they are well done and also printed in the good ol USA! The "Suburban PHiladelphia Trolleys" title has good signalpictures - even the intersection where my KS controller came from

The "Images of America" series appears to be a product of Arcadia Publishing, who also have the "Then and Now" series.

I found a copy of the Little Rock "Then and Now" downstairs in my roommate's books, and was delighted to find a wonderful 1950's shot of Capitol and Main Sts on the back cover -- featuring not only a stately old building (which remains to this day! :clapping: ) but a four-section fourway signal hanging in the middle of the intersection!! :good:

http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/mm5/me ... 0738544229

That should be a link to show the 'inside preview' of the book -- it'll come up showing the front cover (State Capitol) but if you scroll all the way down, it'll show y'all that back cover photo too!

Other fun photos in the book include a couple of ca.1925 (!!) shots also along Main Street, with even earlier fourway signals! :clapping:

I'd highly recommend anyone to look and see if your city (or any of your favorites) are included in the long list of this series!

I'm also a big fan. I've been picking up their stuff for years. Always some great never-before-seen pics in there in addition to some great historical info.
