Adding Down Light To GE Beacon

Postby rustyfoot on Wed Aug 14, 2013 2:50 pm

This is my idea of a simple way to add/install a down light to your GE beacon. This is a GE beacon I just started putting together so I decided to experiment and used it as a Ginny pig to figure an easy way to add a DL.. The pictures tell it all.
All you need to do this job is a soup bowl reflector, a piece of 1'4" wide brass flat stock and 4 self stick felt pads to protect the reflector. Custom bend the brass stock to fit per pictures. Drill hole in the end that secures the brass clip to the GE bottom.. This design along with the felt pads guarantees the reflector gets no damage.
You can spruce yours up to suit your needs, but I did this in 1 hour from start to finish. I will custom shape the brass hold down clips when I install these in the GE dark green beacon I restored several months ago. I will use a spider web

Great idea Chris! :clapping:

Did you make any extra clips for the reflector? :Wink2:

Ditto on all the congrats!
If I can ever finish the restoration, it's going to look more like it used to than it ever did.

Great job, Chris. I'm in the process of trying this myself on my GE 4-way RYG. I have to check the wiring, but I think I'll need to add some for the down light. I wish I had a clear spider lens but at this point any lens will do. It will just add to the variety of lenses in there now. Of that doesn't work, I have a cover plate coming from Jay.
Peace!
Jersey Chris

Adding pictures of the GE downlight using a soup bowl reflector and brass hold down clips. Everything is a perfect fit. It works out really well.... :tease:
