Hiya Folks,

We recently discovered what some on here identified as a Plessey Tin Lantern at a local estate sale.
Photo at estate sale:

We really didn't need this one, but the light wasn't heavy so home it went with us.

Has a little ding on the backside of the cabinet:

Started pulling this light apart this morning:

The bottom end cap has a ding:

We have the light completely apart and will remove all the paint. Looks like a previous owner had started striping the paint.

Guess we have another one to find a place for around here.....

If you want it to look authentic, the ends should be white, the body black, except for the yellow section, which would also be white.

Hi Jerry,

We were thinking of going with the black and white scheme. Would be something different on the back porch. Did notice after looking at photos of similar lights, the end caps on our signal were in the wrong places. Guess a P/O took them off to wire the stop light and put them back on wrong.

Hi Jerry,

During our photo search of these old British signals, we came across photos of yours. Did notice other lights we saw had the top and bottom ends painted white as you mentioned. As to the white on the center yellow section, is the underside of the visor suppose to be white as well?

I do not know the "official" answer to that question. My "unofficial" answer would be yes.

The underside of all the visors should be black.

These were painted about as well as McCains. Either the paint is permanently embedded in the aluminum OR you find a bare "chrome" signal. Feast or famine with these lights.

Green - yellow - red - red & yellow - green.

I have my Plessey sequencing that way too with a custom sequencer from Lights To Go. :grin:
