Detroit - McDougall Marb Resto

Postby JVC8230 on Wed Apr 17, 2013 8:09 pm

Here is my next project folks - A 4-way Marbelite cluster from McDougall and Ferry E. in Detroit. The signals are second-generation flattops with alumnum reflectors an no.77 sawtooths. The cluster has all ball-cross hardware with 16 INTACT finials.

For reference regarding "generations" of Marb flattops, see Jay's wonderful documentation here: http://forums.signaltraffic.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5891

The reflector frames are resonably clean and sockets are in excellent shape. The original color of these signals was black. They were painted olive green and then eventually yellow. I only ended up with 7 good glass lenses (actually good for a Detroit signal). I will be ordering new visors from Steve and having everything blasted and powdercoated safety yellow.

Here are a few pictures - disassembly started today:

Safety. It has to match the other cluster.

That's awesome. I think adjustable 4-ways look every bit as good as their fixed face counterparts. Case in point: this one.

I will be giving it a "facelift" next year, but only back to the point where it looked when it was up in the air.
