Adding a few more pictures of the Porthole beacon progress. Paint is stripped..beadblast is done and top is repaired. The cast aluminum visors will be cleaned and sanded this week. Everything will be put in black primer by this weekend if nothing happens. I've also repaired the corners of an extra CH bottom. I am thinking I may use it on this PH. The 1/4" thick reflectors are not pictured, but I have the original ones....3 are good and the 4th is broken. The reflector frames are toast and can not be saved, but I have found a set of 4 good ones and hope to have them soon.

From my experience restoring my porthole, I learned that the sockets that were used in these signals are still made today. I do not know where to find them though. Jay might know.

I have a porthole question as well.
I see the lens holder thingy that the visors screw into have a feature so the visor dosne't fall to the ground when unscrewed. Or 1 of the 4 screw holes are different that the other 3. I've also see them where all 4 are the same so when you unscrew the wingnuts a turn of the visor will remove the visor al together, similar to a Darley.
Why are some porthole visor thingys different? Age? which one is the older of the 2?

Hey Vaughn,
Good questions and I don't know the answer. However if you unscrew 3 of the ring screws and loosen the top right screw it will allow the visor ring to swing over so the bulb can be replaced without completely removing the port ring. As to age, I would guess the type I have might be older, but I don't know? :grin:

The wing bolt style is newer vintage. The 3 hook portholes are on my earliest cast body model....rarely see a 4 hook version!
