TSI (Autoflow?) door catch surprise

Postby BigTbird1974 on Thu Jan 10, 2013 6:29 pm

While otherwise cleaning up some of the original hardware parts of my TSI 'twin sisters' on the wire-wheel this afternoon, I came across a surprise under the old paint and crud on the door latch wingnut-thingies -- a BRAND NAME?!

Turns out the things were made by DZUS! I've heard that name before...

a close (but not quite) item shows up in a click or two:

I hope I'm not playing CaptainObvious by announcing this "discovery", but ever since I got my TSI's I've thought the latches were particularly nifty little bits of hardware. I didn't guess I'd ever figure out who actually manufactured them, much less that they would still be in business selling mostly the very same thing...?? :2Cool:

And re: the subject, I think (via somebody else's thread a little while back) that AutoFlow signals use the same type of catch.
Which makes sense I guess, since AutoFlow eventually morphed into TSI over the decades, didn't it??

Great discovery! :hyper: I recently spent a lot of time refurbishing my AutoFlow latches. It never occured to me that these latches could still be bought.
Thanks for the information.

My 12" Singer head has Dzus latches. As far as real-world durability was concerned, I've heard they weren't the best but there's something satisfying about the way they pop open and snap closed.

Excellent find for those of us with crusty, rusty ol' latches on our signals. I may be ordering a few very soon here for my TSI signal!

Me to Drew. I noticed there is a quantity discount available. I can use a couple of dozen of these latches if anybody decides to get up an order. $1.99 each or..25/45=$1.79 each or..more than 50= $1.49 each. That's a pretty good savings! :hyper:

Dzus fasteners are common on race cars and other applications where metal, fiberglass, or other sheet type panels need to be removed and replaced quickly. My Camaro has Dzus fasteners which hold the nose to the car, as well as the deck lid, and the ends of the dash....amongst other things.

What's with all the quotes in everyone's signatures?
