To keep up with the New York City motif, I decided to repaint my pedestrian signal from Winko-Matic earlier this year. It was not until recently that I first began to repaint it, since I wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous weather here in New Jersey. The color that I used was Caterpillar Yellow from Rust-Oleum, and I believe that this is the closest shade to the original shade of yellow that was used for the pedestrian signal in the city. It took me a couple of days to repaint the entire thing, and the final product looks great. I also attempted to give it an "off-the-street" look, since I notice a lot of housings throughout the boroughs have not exactly superb paint jobs (when they were repainted), which I kind of like.
This just makes you want to take a time machine back to 1983! I miss the days when these signals dominated the streets of NYC! Hard to believe that the cabinets for most of these signals survive to this day! Who knows how long they'll last?
