Darley Qustions..

Postby coyttl on Thu Jul 04, 2013 5:13 pm

So I took my Darley apart today, enjoying the sun outside, and had a few questions about things I saw.

First - I was wondering, when disassembling, if there was a good way to tell if my signal was originally painted, or bare aluminum. I saw the following, and am thinking that my signal was originally bare:
ImageAll four sides are bare underneath the door tabs there, like pictured. Is this a good indication at all?

Second, I noticed some kind of mounting tabs on the insides - in the picture below, it's the four visible horizontal "ridges". There's four around each light hole.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

I believe those are the mounting tabs for the division plates that separate each section if there is only 1 bulb per section. If there are 4 bulbs per section, I suppose the plates would not be necessary.

My Darley is a beacon, so I'm only guessing here...

Sure looks to me like it was originally bare from your pictures.

Another thought, if it's not to late, you may want to try and keep track of how it came apart and try to put it back together the same way. These lights are so crudely cast that sometimes the parts won't fit well in any position, you'll see what I mean when you start to re-assemble it.

Cool signal!! Are you going to leave it bare, or paint it??

Hey guys -
Interesting, thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know that the single-bulbs had separators (though it makes sense..!)

A local body shop owes me a favor, so I'm going to have them strip the body and get the frozen bolts out. If it looks good all stripped, then I'll have them clearcoat it. Otherwise, i may go for black.

It was probably brushed coated silver from the factory

Those notches are for the dividor plates.

Thanks guys!

One more question -

The top and each side has a "WDS-xxx" (oe WSD, I can't remember..) number stamped on them. However, my bottom panel has a "X..." number. Is that normal, or is my bottom from something else?
