I ordered this rope the other day to replace the original rope seal for my CH. It's not as exact as I thought. Is there a rope thats an exact match out there?

I've heard several times it's not out there. maybe I'm just hoping for a mirical and haven't come to grips with the facts. I'd like to think the guy that installed the rope in the 50s retired. And as part of his retirment package CH gave him a roll of this rope.( shock smiley face ). O well, thanks for the responce.

Try Goggling the term: "cotton rope" and you get various alternatives like this one: http://www.knotandrope.com/Store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=829&idcategory=57#.UCWYeZ1lS6E

Also, if you are trying to make your DT "street original" bear in mind that the signal may have come off the street with an entirely different gasket material. We used a plastic weatherstrip material glued in with Scotchkote!

Are you planning on throwing your signal into a kiln?

..Just wondering.

I'm digging up this thread in hopes that someone has found a closer match to the gasket used in CH AD signals. I went ahead and purchased a single braid nylon polyester blend in 5/16" diameter from the depot which seems to match what would have been used in GE or Marb signals, but definitely not CH. I went ahead and put it in just to prevent chipping of the paint, and although it looks okay it needs to match closer to the original to satisfy my OCD. Did a bit of searching on the interwebs and have found some marine grade polyester double braided rope that matches pretty close. Has anyone purchased any of this kind of rope, and if so how close is it to original?

I haven't come across a close match yet. Someones has a big role of it tucked away in there barn and they don't know they have it. It's just finding that guy is the problem. I'll keep an eye out at yard sales this spring. The search continues.
