I just saw this on Google:

and they using ball LEDs (barring the arrows) instead of the usual squares and triangles.

Anybody have any info?

Yes there are 12" ones! I have a few up in the attic I got a while back. The diamond one is either a round (I think) or a square LED lens with paint masking, the round ball is a normal 12" LED and the square one is a square LED.

Here's the red square. The amber is just a ball with paint on the edges to diamond it up. Green is a normal ball as well (Both with colored lenses). These came out of a metal Fortran.

Well I am surprised! That is pretty darn cool. I would imagine that the paint on the diamond ones would eventually wear off though

I asked the MTQ (Ministry of Transports, Quebec) a while back about the shaped lenses and they did say that they were not using them anymore. They said they ran some tests and they concluded that the shaped lenses did not help the color blind as intended, so all new signals being installed within the province with have the standard ball lenses. I'm just curious to see if Prince Edward Island is still going to use the shaped lenses.
