Hi Folks,

For our two CH lights, I originally tried wire wheeling but found it time consuming and difficult. We then used our sandblasting box to remove majority of the paint. We used 70 grit sand with 85-100 psi which did very well and did not pit the aluminum but gave it a nice texture for new paint to adhear to it. Did notice on the parts with three coats of paint were a little more difficult to blast. In the channels on the doors, a previous owner had glued rubber gasket material which would not come out with a wire wheel or blasting. We used Klean-Strip spray from Home Depot which removed all the rubber and glue with ease.

Examples below:

Hey Troy, or anyone that knows...

What do you mean by "get it dipped", is that done at a typical automotive machine shop??

I have had several of my signals submerged in a paint removing solution by SRT in Fairborn OH.

Aluminum comes out like new. Whatever can be put into a 4x4x4 basket can be done for around $300.

Like OT said, chemical dipping to remove the paint. Some powdercoaters and plating shops offer the service, even though you're not getting anything coated. They will dip it for a fee. A powdercoater out here does it. The last thing I had dipped several years ago was a pedal car and I think I paid $25 or $35.

Here's one if Florida. http://www.autorestorationdepot.com/Prices.html

Not sure if it's close to you out there or not.
