Flashing WALK

In tinkering with my LMD 8000 last night, I discovered not only how to set the ped clear to flash through the yellow but how to enable flashing walk. I turned it on briefly for sticks and giggles but disabled it as I'm not a fan of how it looks.

My question is this: when was flashing walk prohibited (I know it is in the 2009 MUTCD) and why was it initiated in the first place? It seems kind of unnecessary to me. When I met Steve Tutty in 2011, he had his ped signals set to flashing walk and apparently Denver used to do it although I can't remember if he told me why or not. I don't believe it was ever standard practice around here.

My EPAC M52 with the 2007 software revision of SE-PAC still has the option for flashing walk grandfathered in

Thanks, Dee. :hello: I knew it had to have been discussed here before.

In the EPAC, we sometimes use the flashing walk output to drive flashing preempt confirmation beacons.
