My name is Brian, and I'm 50 years old. I've been a traffic engineer for the past 27 years and have designed probably over 100 signal installations / modifications.
I enjoy seeing the new technology that is being used in the signal industry. Some areas (i.e. ethernet communication, bluetooth data collection, vehicle detection) are getting into some exciting new areas. Other parts of the industry are still stuck in the 1960s. What I really love is timing coordinated systems. Cruising down a road with a new timing plan and hitting all greens is the best reward ever.
My dislikes are signals designed by engineers that have no idea how signals work. One poorly designed intersection can muck up miles of good arterial roadway. And if you don't know anything about electricity, please don't send me a wiring diagram.

Being from Austin do you do alot of work with Siemens? They're off Cameron Road.
You and I share a common interest here... traffic signal technology and innovation!!
When you said parts of the industry are all about the newest stuff, while others are stuck in a time warp reminds me of my basement display....the only place you can find vintage heads intermixed with the latest and greatest equipment
