Not really. We stopped there a couple of months ago because we needed two sign brackets for Sondra's RR setup and there just happens to be tons and tons of other cool things to play with in the lot. Not often I get to go climbing around through piles of ragged metal perched precariously on top of each other while balancing myself on small rods, beams, shelving or whatever I can get a foot and handhold on without falling, impaling myself on a rusty sharp object or being buried alive by an avalanche of miscellaneous metal objects. Kind of makes me feel like a kid again. :grin:

Hiya Folks,

This was the last day we could go into the junk lot for the rest of summer! :sad:

We did pick up a few odds and ends before the heat chased me out. Temperatures have hit 105 so far today.
Here is our new ten foot post with some CH plumbing parts and a couple of signs we dug out.

Sondra picked up a couple of cast iron crosses and butterfly to sandblast and paint later.

The lot will be reopened the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of September. :grin:

I do know there are other items of interest in there that we wish to dig out. At least for now, we have some breathing space to catch up on existing projects.

Nice find with regards to the post. About one month ago, I visited a local salvage yard here where I am in New Jersey, and I came across a very similar post. It would have been ideal for my :aruleta:

(had it been cut if I acquired it); however, the owner wanted an arm and a leg for it (about $600 and change). :rob:

Still searching for one.

How much does that pole weigh??

And is it cast iron??

I got 8 like that. They were 15 feet tall, cast iron and could not be picked up by a few people.......

Hi Phil,

Those are some awesome posts and lights you acquired. Looks like you can line your driveway. The acorn lamps you have pictured is what Sondra wants to put on top of one of our posts. She has been wanting one of those before we picked up the CH 4-way.

The post we have is aluminum cast and two people can carry it without popping any discs in our backs. I suspect it weighs less than 100lbs. but have not been able to weigh it on our shipping scale we have out back. Will do that after we return from NC.

Hiya Folks,

We have been out of town the past couple of weekends due to family stuff. The junk lot was reopened both weekends and will be this Saturday. Unfortunately, this will be the last weekend for about six or seven weeks. Joe the owner works the Renaissance Festival in October and November each year. When he reopens later in the year, I will be back at work and probably freezing my butt off in Alaska.

So this Saturday we plan to spend most of the day climbing and culling through the piles of stuff and see what we can save. I will be on the look out for some of the sockets and hardware for porcelain lights for some of the club members. There are plenty of photos of the junk lot posted earlier in this thread for reference. I do know there are a couple of old Eagle signals with the flag mount electrical junction boxes, some more porcelain signs, playground animals, some RR stuff.

It has been since July that we dug around in the lot, so maybe I will come across items I never noticed before.

Hiya Folks,

We spent about 3 hours in the junk lot yesterday morning until the heat and humidity chased me out.

Did the usual digging around with a few things in mind to hopefully find. The last time we were in the lot was at the end of June. Was not as exciting as when we first started going in late April. Seems most of all the good salvageable items that would interest us are already in our yard. There are a few things left of interest but will wait till next year to inquire about.

One item I want to check on is an old air powered brass train bell which is on the second shelf in the below photo.

This is a fairly modern down light we found which we didn't buy. Can't think of a use for it in our back yard right now.

One of two old Eagle flag mount signals. I had turned them face down last June so they would not continue to fill with rain water.

One of about half a dozen complete porcelain shade lamps. All the ones I looked at are chipped, some with flaking sprayed on paint but otherwise in fair condition. We already have three working lights and picked up the conduit and socket for another one to complete at home.

These two photos show one of two socket bases for larger porcelain shades. Not sure if they would fit on anyone's setup here.

There are still some odds and ends RR lights. Have not found any matching pairs of lights.

There are several old porcelain signs we would not mind having but have to think about where they would be placed in the yard before negotiating for them. One porcelain sign that I could not photograph I like is partially buried behind a bunch of stuff that would be difficult to retrieve which was for a long running local furniture store which closed down in the early 90s. Think that sign is from the 1930s.

We have plenty to complete here at home before we venture out again. Hoping this next year we can locate another junk lot in the Houston area to explore.
