Just bend them back into shape, some new paint and you're in business. I have extra rods laying around too you could have but the shipping would probably be a killer.

You guys are right. I don't know why I didn't think about just straightening them :letmethink: :braindamage: This heat wave has my brain fried.

This project has been sitting a while.

I had a couple bent visors on this light and another project, so I used an idea posted by NovinskiB in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9090&p=117818#p117818

I went to Lowes and found a plastic container almost the exact size as the interior of the visors. Filled it with Quikrete, let it cure and then removed the bowl. With the help of a propane torch and rubber hammer, the dents came out with no problem. The plastic container cost around $3 and the Quikrete was around $4. So now I'll have it to use on future projects as well.

Now I'm just waiting on a good day to do some painting.

Were the visors cast? If not, I don't think you really need to torch the visors. It doesn't hurt them any, but I always just used a rubber hammer without the heat.

The visors are cast. I figured it was better to heat them prior to hammering on them to help avoid possible cracking.

Ah, good thinking. I had some cast visors that were SLIGHTLY bent once. I just tapped them slowly and carefully and they came out fine.

DON'T APPLY THE TORCH WHILE IT'S ON THE CONCRETE! Concrete likes to pop little chunks out.

Jason...did you get the reflector frames soda blasted? Didn't see them in your pic. They should look like new!

(Never seen bent cast visors.....only broke or cracked)

I have these to go in it:

I was able to save the rod nuts and was going to use some original rods I have but they are slightly bent. I was think they will likely be ok to use as it would not make much of a difference once everything is tightened down.
Would you guys re-use these or pick up some news ones?

I'm picking up a Octagonal base and pole on Tuesday. Now if I could just find a CH slipfitter. :beg: At this rate, Troy will probably have 5 more lights done before I finish this one.

Can't wait to see the finished product with the commands! I love to see these restore threads.
