Silly upgrade

Postby NKS_Signal on Mon Sep 16, 2013 7:33 pm

I took this photo a while back, something had caused the conflict monitor to trip (probably low voltage/spikes)
Been like this for at least six months now.

A few weeks ago some backplates were added to the existing equipment.
(backplates are the new thing in Detroit :bored: ).
The silly part, it's still in conflict flash :Phil:

I'm certain I've seen some lights around here in flash with arrow sections, maybe they decided flash mode is more efficient

It's in conflict flash, red in all directions. No permanent stop signs, that I noticed.

Just curious -
Are you sure it's in *conflict* flash, and not PREEMPT flash?

Nope, it's been in conflict flash for at least six straight months.

I shouldn't have taken that photo with the gates down

Preempt flash? Educate me please! Is that really done?

Yes, it's common in some states, occasiaonlly used in others, and not used in others.

Essentially, the intersection will either go into all-red flash (4-way stop), or the street following tracks will get a flashing yellow, and flashing red to the street that crosses the tracks.

And even without the crossing activated, NKS, it could still be in preempt flash, if the signal from the crossing controller has been cut. :)

Could also be in a failed flash state (error with the EPIC/EPAC). Are they flashing red in all directions simultaneously? Thats a pretty clear indication that the flashing is controller driven through the switchpacks because the controller has a problem. Alternating flashing is more than likely coming from the flasher unit, which could be a the result of a conflict or something else.

The backplates do not look good in a cluster...what were they thinking.... :Phil:
