Video Detection in a collection?

EM, NEMA, whatever - if it controls a traffic signal, you can talk about it here.

Video Detection in a collection?

Postby EPAC-EPIC-MARC on Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:42 pm

Hey all,

A goal of mine is to someday scrap the motion detector circuit get actual vehicle cameras and do fully (or mostly) actuated. My question is anyone out there have vehicle detection cameras in use in their collections? And have the equipment necessary to have them send calls to the cabinet?

I don't have a traffic system at home, but I do deal with video detection at work. I would suggest a product like: http://www.traficam.com/home.jsp?lang=en or the Iteris Vantage system. The Traficam is a stand alone system, and can be programmed via a USB port (nice) with the correct software installed on your PC. Traficam typically consists of a 1TI or 4TI processor board that is bolted down in the cabinet(it's small) and requires a special ball camera that is interconnected by 5 wire cable. The Iteris needs a card rack of some sort and a NTSC camera. The Iteris card and camera are connected a a standard 75 ohm cable with BNC connectors. The nice thing about the Iteris is that it is self contained, you only need a monitor w/a 75 ohm input (RCA composite works fine) and a USB mouse to adjust the Iteris. No software or PC required.

Both of these may be $$$$$$$, but all the other systems I have worked on require special cables, special adjustment apparatus, etc etc which would be a pain to deal with for a hobby setup.

Yeah I would assume both units would be very expensive bought new. Both brands you mentioned struck my interest. I thought the traficam was clever, reminded me of a webcam. I noticed these for sale on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/Traffic-Signals-and ... 1|294%3A50 but wouldn't all those cameras and i'm not sure everything i would need is there. Either way, I think I'll stick with the motion detection circuit I have going now.
