Too many signs? Build some furniture!

Postby RunsWithCrouse-Hinds on Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:01 am

One of my favorite websites, Instructables, has a member that has done several 'ables on various pieces of furniture built with road signs. Here are a few to get you inspired...

Folding Low Table

Road Sign Coffee Table

Nine Square Chair

Sign Chair

Road Sign Stools

Flagman Table

And some other interesting projects:

Road Sign Fence

Traffic Cone Lamp

Personally, I'd LOVE to build one of the road sign tables, and maybe some stools. Unfortunately the wood working aspect may be beyond me...

Cool stuff.

Though I think that fence for the playground is perhaps a bit dangerous for little fingers... :Phil:

I went to the L.A. Roadster Show last week end, there was a Rat Rod there with a lot of the interior of the car made from traffic signs. Many old houses used signs to patch the roofs. I have found signs painted over for reuse as another sign also. I have no feelings about using modern signs to make things out of but decades ago the signs they used then were modern and no thoughts of the future for collect ability. Of course those signs were usually porcelain and would last for many many years, not so with out present signs. Probably in the future our modern signs will be collectable because of their short life span, if they are still around.

I think many of us have seen this guy's (Boris Bally) work before, but I found some new stuff I hadn't seen before...

Interesting bathroom floor, but I'm seeing this perhaps in a bar or nightclub...

Some background on Boris

They have better material to start with, as opposed to some local examples. Around here when a sign is done, it's done.

How bout PHEW-WHALLOP as in P-U (stink) and smack. There are many names in the area from the native american origins. I think Wisconsin has a bunch too.

Put Florida on that list also, some of the river names I won't even try to pronounce. :Phil:

Pretty much all of that stuff looks dangerous for children as there appears to be a lot of sharp edges. Plus, I hate to see a good sign be drilled or cut up.
