C-H TSS-22 flasher

EM, NEMA, whatever - if it controls a traffic signal, you can talk about it here.

C-H TSS-22 flasher

Postby SoCalJim on Wed Mar 06, 2013 3:35 pm

:hello:
I have a C-H TSS-22 motor flashing Switch.

The schematic calls for a capacitor between the leads for the mercury switch.

In this unit the switch was disconnected and there was no capacitor in there. I have no idea what kind or size of capacitor It should have. If anybody has one of these or knows what I need, please let me know. And better yet, if somebody has one that they can part with, I would really appreciate it. :beg:

Thanks, jim.

I have never seen one of those critters! I have its cousin with the open contacts rather than mercury switches.

I'll hazard a guess that the capacitor only serves as a radio noise suppressor. It will work just fine without it.

Well, I'm not an electrical kind of guy but the schematic doesn't have it in the motor circuit. So it's something to do with the switch or light. Personally, I don't see where you need it... but as stated, I'm not an electrician. So I figured that I would throw it out to the forum. Somebody out there should know...

A .1ufd 600V should work. That's the old school part, now Quencharc resistor/capacitor combo is the tool.

Thanks for the info. I'll copy what you have here (because I don't speak that language) and take it down to the local electronics store to see what they have. I'm just guessing here but it sounds like it has something to with controlling the arc inside the mercury switch.

Thanks, jim.

Well, mine runs fine without it and at $37 average price tag, I think it will stay without one.
Like the previous post said, it seems since it's not on the motor line, but out to the load line, and from what I have read, they suppress the noise in electronic equipment.

Well, now that I know what to ask for and it's only a couple of bucks, it's not an issue. I'm just glad that you guys are out there to lean on for information. Electricity I don't mind. But electronics is a whole 'nother story...

Thanks, jim.
