5 gallon dry wall bucket works perfect! I've had the same one for 10 years

The 5 gallon cans of lacquer thinner I have purchased have always been in metal containers, so I have always only used the thinner in other metal containers. I guess there could be some types of plastic that don't react with thinner but I don't know enough about chemistry to know what would work and what wouldn't. Thinner is highly flammable - so be careful out there! As to Ed.T's comment, I wait until the funnel rag full of paint residue is dry before I put it in the trash and haven't had to dump any thinner at all - anywhere. I realize that it's probably lead based paint but until they quit dumping asbestos in the local landfills - and toxic mining wastes where I live - I think I'm doing less harm and in much smaller quantities, than the commercial guys do.
If I can ever finish the restoration, it's going to look more like it used to than it ever did.

all of my paint, thinners, oil and antifreeze gets recycled

actually you can use put lacquer thinner in a can and let it sit for a couple of days and all the paint goes to the bottom and thinner goes to the top and clears up.

OK guys, I've decided NOT to give up on this... While I do not plan to take it completely apart, I am getting all of the glass and wiring out of it. I spent a couple hours this evening to that end. I finally got the lenses out from behind the blank covers!!! The green is in two pieces, but reparable. The red is fine...and now I purely have Kopp 27s all around! The tough part is, many brass bolts have been snapped off in various places...danged brass looks nice but is a bee-itch to work with.

I have had great success with applying heat (sparingly) to the non-rotating rotating item. But before I even get there, I'll sometimes get lucky by slightly tightening the screw/bolt before trying to reverse it out.

I agree with EdT. Moderate heat followed by Kroil soaking in for 48 to 72 hours works for me 90% of the time. Just get your parts apart where the screws are vertical and let the Kroil sink in. And why is it that the Ruletas you find have Kopp 27s and not Ruleta lenses? Are all your reflectors in your Ruleta the presumably older variety that are all glass or the ones with metal - presumably aluminum - inserts around the socket area?

Kopp27s are a very traditional Ruleta lens. The only lens more Ruleta-y than Kopp27s would be a Houzex. Sure, Horni had their run of "New York City Horni" Kopp27s, but they were post-Ruleta replacements...

Holophane had a shot at it too:

Sorry those were the best shots I had of those. The screws holing them in were frozen.
Moderately inspirational message.

I believe I may have a "last generation" version of this signal. The reflectors have the metal rings, the wires are plastic coated, the Kopp 27 lenses are the later kind, and no manufacturer name is stamped or embossed anywhere. I guess it's from the mid-late 40s.

So your lenses say Kopp NO. 27 or Kopp #27, I've been told the #27's are older.
