Darley - aluminum or black visors???

Postby Old-Timer on Sun Jun 02, 2013 10:23 am

First I have to thank Tacoma Joe for dropping this project in my lap and John Good for trading and providing parts!

I borrowed a visor from my beacon to see what a black visor would look like against the aluminum finish.

The hanger was painted hammered black and the wire entrance doohickey will be painted hammered bronze.

Any opinions?

With the weather cooperating some projects are moving along....my fourth cast iron mailbox arrived and I have no idea where to start on taking these cast iron beasts apart...hey Troy..... help!

A second flasher box 'wheeled' its way to my house....now I have two to get rid of!!!!

Hey John,

The black visor looks kinda sharp on silver, but IMO it looks better on a yellow signal body. I would have to vote for silver on the visor's. I'm sure what ever you choose, it will look great like the rest of your collection. ;)

I think the black looks good on the silver too. It would seem odd having all 12 visors black though, I think, but I would like to see it. I say go for it.

Doesn't Dave Hahn have a Tokheim painted silver with black visors?

What's with all the quotes in everyone's signatures?

Hey John.
The black looks good, but 12 black visors may be to much? It's all about pleasing yourself so do it to suit yourself, then you will be happy with it. I have restored several Darley beacons and the aluminum/silver look can't be beat on the Darley  :good: :tease: It suits them to a tee..... IMO.
The important thing is you are bringing that signal back to life! :hyper:

Black Visors.
I am a railfan, signalfan, and I'm interested in tornado sirens. I hope to learn new things about traffic lights because I'm interested in them and don't know much about them.

I would opt for silver, because it seems to help identify and differentiate it as a Darley. That being said,I agree with Chris. Whatever your final preference will look great!
