The Driscoll bridge carries the Garden State Pkwy., and, as of present day, it is considered as the widest bridge in the world (15 lanes in total).
In the early 1940s, the Thomas Edison bridge opened to traffic, and it carries U.S. route 9. Originally four lanes in total, the original structure carried traffic for well over 40 years. I remember I used to travel on this bridge when my folks and I visited the shore points. Over the years, the aging bridge was replaced with a three lane bridge in the early 2000s, in which carries one direction of U.S. route 9, while its twin (built at the same time) carries the other direction.
