GE "Solid Door" Novalux Pick-A-light 8-6-11

Postby Fred on Sat Aug 06, 2011 3:59 pm

This week we have a 1920's, GE Solid (one piece) door, Novalux
Please list your pictures, Information, and knowledge for all to research and enjoy.

This one is a model that I really don't have a lot of specific information on other than what I can see with my eyes. This is an 8" light with 8-3/8" lenses. It has the original Kopp 27's w/ a dark amber lens, Acorn finals hardware, Cereal bowl reflectors, this is the original paint on the light (I won't be restoring this...it is in great shape), it has "C" channel gaskets similar to the Ruleta (flat on both sides and slips around the rim of the lens). The one piece body measures 31" tall X 11-3/8" wide X 6" deep. The door measures 29-1/4" tall X 9-1/2" wide. The door is held closed by two thumb knobs, knobs are aluminum. The visors are original, they are held in place by two indentations on the top which aline with holes on the lights "Drip Edge", and are tightened by a brass screw and nut at the bottom. The visors are also notched around the hinge on one side. The light has two door hinges with brass pivot pins.

If any of you recall, Dave Hahn has two of these at the top of his stairs. One has a 1A marking like this one and the other just has a 1. Again, please add any information or links you may have.

LOL Fred...I fought with myself for a half hour whether to hit the BIN button on that light....was actually at the confirm screen twice!

Great score!

Any back-story on this? How did it survive so unmolested for all these years?

The previous owner got the light from St. Paul Minn. in the mid 1960's and it's been hanging in his garage since. It's dirty, but is in great shape.
