Marbelite 1st Generation flat top

Postby Crunge98 on Sat Oct 16, 2010 11:20 pm

This is a Marbelite Flat top single face. This is the first version of it. Marb took over Horni and used there design. the only thing that changed was the logo on the back that said simply Marbelite. All the lights I know that are out there like this one have the Kopp 66 lenses in it. The reflectors are mounted to the doors. The bodies are bolted together with brass bolts.

notice the two dimples above and below the logo on each section

Notice the door stick out farther around the lense because the reflector is mounted to the door

I strongly suspect that a couple of these may still be serving at the corner of Washington & Watchung in Chatham NJ. I took a close look at these years ago, before I knew the subtleties of this model. One thing I recall were the dimples surrounding the bottom entrance hole. EDIT: OK, I see from your 2nd gen Marb that those dimples survived for a while after the change in reflector design.

There's also an adjustable 4-way hanging in the Morris Canal Ale house in Boonton, NJ that may be of this type. I asked once about it, but didn't get very far.

Yeah, I tried for one, too, in Rye, back in 2004, no luck.. :cray: .

Is there any Cast ID number in the 1st generation flat top?

This breakdown would be good to have on the Marbelite SignalWiki.
