Simon, my 'Plessey' was originally painted black and white, has glass lenses but only has an embossed lettered STOP - the amber and green are plain (with that MBE cross-hatch-screen pattern). The body is assembled with what appear to be big pop-rivets but the door hinges are bolted on to the body. Where would that fit in your timescale?

Ed, you described my Plessey to a T. We have the exact same models. But does yours have cutaway or tunnel visors?

Tunnels. Much nicer than those lens-exposing cutaways. :P Tunnels are where it's at. Makes it much more regal and sophisticated. Kind of like little top hats around the lenses.

Ed,

I suspect your lantern will be 30s, going into the 40s due to the bolted door hinges,

The green GO lettered lenses were optional and it appears the majority of signal sites seem to have had the green GO lenses omitted or replaced at some point. Its also difficult to find examples of them in pictures, and I have never seen nor known one in person. STOP however was mandatory until it was outlawed.

Thanks for the history lesson!!!!!!
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Really?! So it matches up timewise with my crossroads sign?

Quick question: Were only the end plates white on the Plessey lights which were painted black and white, or did the white extend down onto the signal body in the red and green sections?

Steve, mine was mostly stripped before I got it, but the white on the end plates does not appear to carry on to the body (except for the amber portion of course).

BTW, the end plates (cast sections) are not riveted on but bolted on like the door hinges.
