That LED setup looks a lot like the Optisoft experimental signals. I'm surprised Siemens never changed those doors, it's easy to break the latch tabs.

It looks similar to Siemens' SIRA CLS LED lenses over here, they appear black when unlit. Although ofc, you'd have to remove the border to have it all-black.
