My first and probably last NEMA cabinet

Postby jab8356 on Sun Nov 25, 2012 12:42 pm

Met up with Drew in Toledo yesterday evening and brought this home. First step is to get it in the basement. I have a dolly in the garage and a strap to keep it on the dolly. Will probably tackle it today. I will post progress pictures here as I switch over from my plywood box to this cabinet. I knew I bought those #2 keys on ebay for a reason!

Edit: The dolly has flat tires...Nick was nice enough to come over and give me a hand carrying that thing down stairs.

If the lockset is like mine I just took it off. It's an annoying, turn the key, turn the handle, pull the handle, release the key setup.

Glad I could lend a hand Jerry! :good: The cabinet's in overall great physical shape. From the way it was wired up inside, it looks like it was used as a simple 4 way intersection with a doghouse and regular RYG on each approach. With a quick clean up and the controller/monitor installed and it should fire right up.

Jerry-- that relay you have in the wood box that you "need" to get the signals to light up will more than likely not be needed in this cabinet.

Yeah, I figured that much. Probably just need the other two for putting everything into flash and the flashing red ball Michigan LEFT.

Glad it found a new home, and I can't think of a better one than Jerry's basement. Can't wait to see it in operation!

Nick, your correct on how it was originally connected. Simple four way intersection with doghouse left turns.

That would require more rewiring work than I am willing to take on. :tease:

From the For Sale thread about this cabinet...

Though part of me will be sad to see the old wooden one retired from service.

Ron, the old wooden cabinet will play a part in this new cabinet. The plywood door on the old wooden cabinet is going to be used as the table top of the small table I need to build to get the new cabinet off the floor.

That's a better fate than my old wood cabinet faced... :Poof: :Poof: :Poof:

Nice grab Jerry, if I was closer I probably would have gone for it. Can't wait to see it in the museum!
