For good reason. Just use whatever rope is closest in size at Home Cheapo/Blowes like Jay said.

I've been using this stuff from McMaster Carr - Fiberglass Rope Gasket
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/3472/=inybqf
item #8818K45

Here's what it looks like:

The weave is not as tight as original but it looks pretty good. The ends fray when you cut it, so I wrap it with tape before I cut it (with a razor) dab a little flexible clear glue on the fibers and remove the tape when it's dry...
If that sounds like too much work, they also sell other types of rope gasket made of other materials.

Go to Ace Hardware and use there clothes line rope. They have rope thats made of different material but I like the cotton and to me has almost the same weave as the asbestos material.

High temp. rope seal

Postby vaughn on Tue Aug 07, 2012 10:50 am

I have a CH dt light and have been looking for a seal that matches the old asbestoes rope seal. Found a manufacturer that has what looks to be a good match with a rating of -70 degrees to +1000 degrees. I ordered 10 feet of it and will let ya know how it looks when it gets here.

Are you planning on throwing your signal into a kiln?

..Just wondering.

I was hoping that rope would be a match but it's not. Where do you get the rope gasket?

I have a fever, and the only thing that'll fix it is a tighter weave on a 1/4 inch rope gasket. Is there a better match?
