I am not familiar with Germany's transportation standards. When DDR and West Germany united in 1990, did the DDR have to conform with West German signal standards?

What's the reasoning for painting the inside of the visors white? Or is the correct question, why are the insides of visors in the USA painted black? The white makes it easier to see that the indication is lit, no?

I believe DDR signals had to conform to West Germany's standards after they were united. This led to the loss of the green + amber phase on signals in the DDR reigon. It also marked the introduction of the green arrow sign to signals in the DDR area I believe, which allows turns on red if safe to do so.

More so, it's probably a more common story that the Amplemann, his sister and thier varient cousins were taken out of use in the former DDR and replaced with West German or Euro-Standard figures (dependant on spec, entireley, I believe). There was an uprising, and the Amplemann, his sister and his varient cousins returned. This therefore also supports the fact that DDR had to conform to W. German standards after unification :-)

Is the Siemens unit out-putting a special programmed cycle, or is that it's 'native' cycle? I'm unsure if the red and amber isn't a bit long on that, but I may be wrong.

It's strange to see how quite different Siemens kit is here from Germany as well. Siemens is the largest supplier, maintainance and installation company in the UK, especially with thier new ST900ELV controllers which run an entired signal intersection on 48v. Yeah, everything on 48v, signals, controler, box signs, OTU, detector racks, the lot! Cuts bills for electricity and also is very environmentally friendly

Just to clarify, Die in German is like The in English and is pronounced dee. If you didn't know that you might think that Ampelfreund is saying DIE DDR Traffic light! :rotfl:
