I just picked up my LMD 8000 from TacomaJoe today and am having a small argument with it in regards to it wanting to run phases 2 and 6 concurrently. I want them to run separately but the overlaps are not set up that way or even turned on. I've also played around with the phase sequence and priority to no avail.

Any ideas?

You cant split phases 2 and 6. They run concurrent between phasing rings.

Ring 2 phases run concurrent with Ring 1 phases

With dual ring 2 and 6 run together. The LMD can do sequential and run each phase by itself. Don't have a controller in front of me but it should be PROGRAM - CONTROLLER - PHASING/SEQUENCE and the value should be one less than it is for dual ring.

From what I've seen, these controllers seem very complicated and limited. They can do great things, but things like that 2-6 limitation don't make a whole lot of sense to me. Wouldn't there be some safeguard override for people more advanced than the standard field technician?

The dual ring configuration was defined in the NEMA 1972 spec but every controller I've seen (even pre-NEMA) seem to use that same configuration. Newer controllers had the options for different configurations and now we're dealing with 16 phases in 4 rings.

Got it figured out! Setting the phase ordering to 'Sequential' solved the issue, at least I think that's how I did it :Phil:

I've also elected to leave the controller running 24/7 and simply turning the signals off as Joe's magic panel allows that. While the EF-20 didn't mind being turned on and off at whim, I don't think this one will appreciate it so much.

I've got the basics down but some of the abbreviations and acronyms still elude me so I think a sit-down with the manual is in order.

I originally planned to hang on to the EF-20 but have a friend who is also a collector but has no proper controller. I warned him the contacts are worn and that is likely what's causing the corrosion but he's still interested so I'm selling it to him. He's going to see if he can fix it.

I'm done running wires around my parents' garage. I may add one or two more ped signals but for now, I'm done until I get my own place where I call the shots. :beee:
