I flew in on Google Earth.
The intersection is on US 50. One of the legs has a single lane approach, so it can't (and doesn't) have an FYA head. So they must have wired the FYA in the opposite direction wrong. It can't prevent yellow trap. The two FYA faces on US-50 do prevent yellow trap.

What do you think of the R-Y-Y permissive one I mentioned? Seems kinda pointless to me, tbh. Thanks for pointing out the spots for me in the MUTCD though, that thing is a pain to sort through.

If there had been a left turn lane on the 4th leg of the above intersection, but no left turn phase, this face would be necessary there.

Ah.. I was thinking you were talking about all the FYA in the metro area... that's further than I tend to wander. lol

For those upstate NYers who want to know, it's the intersection of Fuller Rd. at Railroad Ave. They're doing heavy construction on that part of Fuller Rd, so it may be a hastle to get there, but the lights in the Google Maps link have been replaced (idk why they didn't just retrofit LEDs, as it doesn't look like that old of an installation) and the new lights are Dialight LEDs and instead of installing the doghouse signals, they stuck an arrow light on the bottom of the signals. IDK if it's soley a green arrow, or if it's bi-modal (common sense would be a bi-modal), as I didn't get the opportunity to see it change, so if anyone's in the Albany area, be sure to check it out!

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but some things have come up and I'd like to bring up the discussion again.

First off, Google Streetview has been updated so by clicking the above link you can see exactly what I'm talking about in rather good detail. Second, there's these pics from Ian L's flickr sets:

http://www.uploads.calvinet.com/uploads/1334636817.jpg - This again is Fuller Rd. at Railroad Ave.

http://www.uploads.calvinet.com/uploads/1334681106.jpg - Taken in RI.

Has anyone else come across one of these? I've tried looking online but this is as close to it as I can get:

- Very similiar-looking, yet not quite there.

I say, looks like a GE model. I was talking to a GE salesperson, and they forwarded me a PDF on the model line that includes the "outline" bimodal. I was wondering what "outline" looked like. Now, I know! :)

I can post the PDF, if anyone's interested.
