Eagle ED 9

Postby TacomaJoe on Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:46 pm

My latest project (along with the Marbelite) is an Eagle ED 9 controller.

The cabinet is in pretty good shape, I have a 1-1/2 hole to plug on the top. The controller is going to be somewhat of a challenge. The main power switch is seized.

And I have a couple of gears that are worn.

These are from the 30's and 80 years has worn out a lot of parts. I noted that the both the neutral and the feed run through fuses and both are switched so if a fuse blows, the signals will be dark but the power will still be there. I may try to rework the contacts with silver solder, but will test my technique on EF20 contacts first.

That was the standard in the early days of electricty............

The outlet is dead... :Poof:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Suddenly freeing all those crusty DT screws seems like lying on a beach in Maui with an umbrella-decorated drink. Good luck to you, sir! :hello:

Thats a crusty old controller! I know you can pull it off judging by your previous projects. Good luck!

Got a little work done. Started with my pile of parts.
Image
Took the fuse holders apart, cleaned the ceramic with soap and water. The brass got 30 minutes sloshing around in some ammonia (says lemon scent, but I beg to differ).
Image Image
I decided to use the original wires. They were crudded up but in fair shape after cleaning. I knocked the crud off by running the length of each wire with a pinch of nylon pad (dry). The panel got the same cleaning treatment, then both were hit with armour-all.

That's it so far. I'm chasing down a clock repair guy to see about some gear work. The switch is now freed up but still ugly. More to come.
