Central Park two-section pedestrian signal observation #1

Postby steven1981 on Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:46 am

While I was at Central Park in Manhattan last Thursday, I recorded and observed the sequence of one two-section pedestrian signal while in operation. In the video, you could hear the cam advancements from the signal controller that controls it, which was manufactured by General Traffic Equipment. Below, is a picture of it.

Has a pedestrian push button as you could see, but it is inoperable, since the signal controller is pre-timed.

What's interesting about the two-section pedestrian signal here is that it functions like an ordinary pedestrian signal, since it shows a flashing clearance (flashing red ball). This occurs prior to when the red ball becomes steady. An interesting, yet strange observation that I made here. Enjoy the video.

Thanks, John.

I had the camera right above where the solenoid and coil were located. The vibration caused the camera to slightly tilt forward. I caught it in time, since it was about to fall on the pavement.
