RA-GA-YA ?!

Postby jimmybob on Wed Aug 07, 2013 7:37 pm

That's not the title of Lady Gaga's latest hit...

This signal is at the end of the ramp from EB I-70 to NB Ohio 256 near Pickerington. The green and yellow arrow positions have been swapped ever since the signals were upgraded a few months ago. The signal does cycle correctly, which makes it even more baffling as to how this could've happened. The rest of the signals at the intersection have everything in the correct order.

I would DEFINITELY call that in to the regional ODOT office! I once spotted a new intersection (installed by a contractor) that had two of the ped phases swapped, so in other words, the main street ped showed on the side street, and vise versa, meaning that when the main street had a green, the side street ped showed a walk! I called it in over that weekend while I was visiting my parents and left a message, and my parents said the next day there were bags over the ped heads, and the wiring was fixed a week or so later and the bags removed.

Sorry, but I'm confused about this. When you say it cycles correctly, do you mean that the center section (green arrow) is lit during the green phase, and the bottom section (yellow arrow) is lit during the yellow phase? Or does it function YA->GA->RA? I'd love to see a video of this signal before the error is fixed.

Makes me wonder if the individual that installed this was aware of the odd arrangement.

I mean, c'mon. Isn't this obvious? Unless no one cared.

Ask and ye shall receive! :) I posted a video to YouTube showing it in action (green and yellow light up when they're supposed to).

Not very many people will catch it.

someone was color blind when the slapped the LED's in at the shop, and then no one checked it when they hooked it up in the field....

All that mattered were that the wires were in the right place on the terminal block!

But yes, a very :rob: moment

OR -- something momentarily surprising happened when someone was up in the bucket slapping the LED's in (causing doors/things to get 'dropped') then a likewise lack of checking afterward...?

and if this was the side street, maybe it was even flashing at the time too, only adding to the confusion...?
