Im going to do it again...

I got a CH downlight last week and have decided to restore it (of course). I have also decided to bore you all once again with all the details of the process. :bored: I will post progression photos as I move along.

I have the two porcelain sockets but for some reason, one was glued in the light.

Tore it all apart and it wasn't crusty at all. I'm only going to use one section with a CAUTION lens so I cut some new rods as well.

I decided I'd make me a door for the downlight also out of some 1/4 thick aluminum. There is one near me that is still in service & I can get pics & measurements off of. I cut me a template out of some 16ga. steel. Paper or cardboard ones seem to get messed up too easy. Plus, if I ever need another, this will be easy ready to go. This ones been drilled, fits real well and now I'll have to get the aluminum and a 5" non-drilled hinge.

Got some stripping done too

That's all for now, I'll keep you posted when I get more pics.

Why don't you replace the in-service one with your copy?

Looking forward to seeing another one of your restos!

Troy, I enjoy the progress photos, and great job fabricating the door.

Anyone know if the interior portion of the downlight piece was originally painted white or was it porcelain or ceramic coated?

I can't tell on this one. It looks like porcelain in places and paint in others. Thanks for any help :hello:
