Gamewell Flashlight Controller & signal light

Postby C-Phase on Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:58 am

Posted some info in the welcome wagon.
Was told this is the forum for posting photo's and hopefully to get some info and history on this controller and signal. I did a LOT of internet research and pretty much came up empty. I found only one photo of this particular box on the web, which lead me to finding this forum and hopefully to get an education. :Wink2:

Here's my attempt at posting some pictures for ID

Thanks in advance.

Can't post any more photo's, it's says img to wide. I'm using PB but never used the thumbnail option. Any help with that?

Thanks

That's the problem.
When at PB and putting the cursor of the photo I want to post, I only get the following options:
1) E-mail & IM
2) Direct link
3) HTML code
4) IMG code

Not seing the "thumbnail option"
I always use Option 4 and never had a roblem with any forums I post PB pictures on.

I'm sure I must be over looking the thumnail thing, but I never used that option. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thank you

In PB, you have to go into your profile and select the option for it to show thumbnail links with your photos. Otherwise it does not display the links. Hope this helps.

Very cool. I've never seen one, but I'm sure some of the more knowledgable folks here can provide some info.

Hey, Harry. You do have some really interesting pieces there!

Your beacon is very interesting. It was most likely
manufactured by a company named Horni. From probably the 1920s until the mid 1940s,
Horni manufactured street signs and signal equipment.
I am not too familiar with this four-way beacon, because I have seen only one other picture of it.
Believe it or not, another fellow member on here has one in his possession. It may have
been manufactured sometime in the late 1920s to 1930s. Could be wrong, but that's what I believe.

What's interesting about it is in that the beacon uses frensel lenses. The same kind of lenses
that many railroad signals use. Pretty interesting. Some early traffic signal devices used frensel lenses.

Just out of curiosity, do you know where this four-way beacon had originally seen service in?

Red Bank, NJ is where I removed it from service.

I have more detailed photo's of the glass lenses.

Also I removed the inside workings of the controller mounted on a thick slate backboard and decided to dis-assemble and buff out the brass and copper componets. Really came out sweet !!

The beacon restoration is to follow :good:

Very nice. I have visited Red Bank several times in the past, and I vaguely remember
I saw some vintage traffic signals and such there.

You do have something truly unique and valuable there. Enjoy it.
It would be nice to revive the original flasher (controller). Good luck.
