Ped buttons

I recently took a bit of a vacation where the local ped buttons intregued me. http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u36 ... 16e7df.jpg
They would buzz to let you know not to cross the street.

Here you really need to pay close attention to the signs crossing the st, very dangerous. http://i1064.photobucket.com/albums/u36 ... 6eed97.jpg

This particular peice of equipment really got my attention
Is this a fire hydrant of some sort?

From what I've heard, that controls the water to the sprinkler system inside of a building. Not entirely sure if what I said was correct though.
I am a railfan, signalfan, and I'm interested in tornado sirens. I hope to learn new things about traffic lights because I'm interested in them and don't know much about them.

Post Indicator Valve

Postby techtiques on Fri Sep 06, 2013 9:46 pm

It's called a Post Indicator Valve

A Control Valve that enables the fire sprinkler system to be turned on or off for testing. They have viewable sites that show the status of the installed Fire Sprinkler system. Break-away locks need to be on the wrench in order to protect against theft or tampering.

I took these pics in Vegas and all the traffic signals were 12''ers, pretty big.
I figured that thing had to do with water but wasn't sure
