Darley beacon restoration

Postby Easy on Fri Jan 11, 2013 8:26 pm

Here's a little something to keep me busy for the winter. :Wink2: Thanks to a member I have my first Darley beacon. I wasn't to thrilled about Darley's, but I thought that it was about time to get one.

Anyone have any suggestions on a color?

Nice looking light looks better then mine :Wink2:  I would paint it with a Aluminum Color paint that Rust-olem sells it, it would be a good color for that nice looking light, nice find :good:

All the silver paints are too bright. I even tried dull aluminum, and that was too bright. Which brand of silver are you guys talking about?

I believe it was Rust-oleum, I was attempting the natural look.

This pic was taken before I put the slotted screws on the hoods.

You might want to keep track of how you take it apart, I didn't and had to keep swaping parts around til everything fit well again. Still looking for 2 amber lenses and 2 reflectors.

I'm sure that you will make it look brand new again Easy.

Think about going with silver. Sherwin-Williams makes a silver paint with a dull/satin look and one with a bright look.
Nice signal...you lucky dog! :hyper: :tease:

Easy,

Eastwood makes some nice silvers that are designed to look like various metals. THey don't have the shine and some are darker than the regular store-bought silvers. They ain't cheap though. Check them out, click on the various colors and they'll show an example of the product on parts to give you an idea.

Ditto what Troy said. :good: You may be able to find a good color there. I have used several of their paint products with good success. I agree that most of the standard silvers have too much bling. The silver color my beacon came with was toned down. I decided to not paint it because I liked the look.
