Wife's New Yard Ornament

Postby khardy on Sun Apr 21, 2013 8:02 am

Hi Folks,

We have been busy with digging, picking and doing things around town and the house the past few days. In our adventures, we came across an item Sondra has been wanting for a while...

This is a Safetran System RR Fixture. We are missing the bell at the top, couple of brackets for mounting the tracks sign and the original access plate on the base. Some of the parts are fairly modern but otherwise the unit is complete and works.

This is the signal switch for the "Wig Wag" effect.
Image

The Solenoid Switch has an inspection date of 1-26-53. This is a 12 vdc unit. Plan to mount and use the Eagle Control Box with the CH base for storing the solenoid switch and 12vdc power supply.

We have already picked a spot in the yard and will start digging our trenches and making the foundation today.

Cheers!

Very nice!!!

Since FRA rules state any/all relays have to removed, inspected and recalibrated every 7 years, The latest that one saw service was 1960!!

All you need to do now is hook it yp to car battery and have a trickle charger to keep it charged......

Just like a real railroad signal!!! :good:

Mine is not as clean..... :Phil:

Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Keith, don't take this or read this the wrong way but your wife rules. She's wanted this for some time  I figured someones wife is the one to ask "what are you going to do with a traffic light"

WOW Keith (and Sondra!) -- that's INCREDIBLE!!

That setup is gonna give your CH signals some pretty stiff "competition" for total :2Cool: -ness!!!

I predict you'll be able to find a bell for it rather easily, I know of at least one fellow STF member (who can reveal himself if he wants to) that has a "new" one even.

come to think of it, and considering how y'all seem to "find" all this great stuff..., maybe I should ask to be put on your list, for when you "run across" a dozen of 'em somewhere...??

And that FLASHER RELAY --   -- I hope we all can look fwd to a short video of that thing 'running' -- looks like a fabulous little bit of machinery to "see go"!! :beg:

CONGRATS on the AWESOME ADDITION to your collection!! :clapping: :clapping:

I wish that I had a wife that enjoyed the same things that I do! My wife thinks that everything that I collect is junk.

Hiya Folks,

We are getting the conduit run and foundation form inplace for Sondra's new toy.
The server I use is having some problems so will have to wait for photos...

Mark, you are right, there are four different lights, two facing forward and two aft.

Phil, we are running power to the unit from a control box to be located on the barn porch using a 12vdc power supply.

Vaughn, Yes Sondra Rules! She is totally awesome. I think it may have been her idea to get a traffic signal originally.

Tim, we get out alot to find some of these cool items to restore and set up for our entertainment.

Easy, Sondra and I have the same gaudy tastes and enjoy the hunt for our treasures.

So you guys will know, Sondra is legally blind with retinitus pigmentosa. She can see forward very well, but has no peripheral vision. One of my objectives is to take Sondra to see as much as is practical and literally light her world up. As to the bell for the rr equipment, think that would make a good addition since she can hear very well.

Cheers!

Sounds like you guys are a great pair and have a wonderful marriage. That is great to hear in this day and age where there is so much negative in the world.

Hiya Folks,

We have been doing what we can for preparing Sondra's new RR set up in the back yard.

Foundation poured and most of the grass put back into place.

We plan to use an old Eagle control box with CH foundation base for containing the RR switches and power supply.

More to follow.....

Cheers!
