By late 1971 Eagle had fully developed the 8" poly Durasig, field tested several thousand units and was set to intorduce it at the IMSA show.

Interesting points to note:
-Acrylic lenses predated Poly signals & Lexan lenses.
-Possibly the first Poly signal and first use of Lexan for lenses.
Although Horni at least experimented with Bakelite type signal housings.
-The first Durasigs used WingBOLTS not WingNUTS or later thmbscrews to hold the doors shut.
-The visors used the twist-n-lock install method
-The lens and reflector were gasketed together.
-The original configuration was yellow signals with black visors [and doors?]

The original design/prototype for the housings were not molded the way as the first generation production run. It appeared to be vacuum cast. Easy way to tell is to look at the back of the housing. On the injection molding models there is a sprue that's created when the molten plastic hardens between the screw injector and the mold cavity. It appears to be a long plastic stick when pulled from the mold, but then is trimmed leaving a mark on the housing. On the DuraSig is directly on the Eagle bird logo. The ones without the DURASIG name on the back do not have this mark. Its safe to assume the early days had them experimenting with different casting and molding techniques to find the best option.

The prototype and first run models did not have the bosses in the housing for an in-housing reflector...didn't need it.

DURASIG's first on the books July 19th 1970 and the brand name was discontinued January 11th 1993.

The first time I saw them was with Jesse in Philadelphia, PA back in the late 1980s

We had no idea they were poly until the late 1990s when we passed on some from a contractor!!!
