FINALLY! REAL DARLEY LENSES FOR MY DARLEY!

Postby 64ragtop on Fri Jun 14, 2013 10:02 pm

So... About 2 years ago I bought my first Darley with 4 mis-matched lenses - non of which were Darley. I did spend some time in putting it back together, but didn't spend much money on it in the process. I put some Kopp 4666 lenses in it to look like Kopp 27's

Here's the original thread form that project.
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6998&hilit=+budget+darley

I've been enjoying having the light since then, but recently started looking for the correct lenses. I was fortunate to get 2 reds and an amber several weeks ago from ebay. All I needed to complete the puzzle was the last amber (or should I say orange!).

Thanks to Drew (mnence1) I was able to get the last lens!!  Drew put in some extra effort to get it for me since he wasn't the actual owner of the lens.

OK... So you've all seen a Darley before. But here are a few pictures of my beacon before (with the 4666's) and after (with the correct Darley lenses).

The 4666's actually look good, but time for a change...

The Darley ambers really look orange. Very cool!

Once they light up....not so orange.

I definitely like my Darley even more now!

Would this one have been correct with Poly lenses or did the orange peel lenses survive into the nobel era?

This beacon actually is a single bulb beacon. If you click on the link and read the story in the thread I posted at the top of this post, you will see that I added the four bulb reflectors because they were easier to find. I couldn't find anyone willing to cough up the 4 single bulb reflectors I needed at the time. I still have the original single bulb socket. I left it inside the light. I also have a bell for it that Ty gave me a while back. Maybe someday I'll find those 4 single bulb reflectors and do a complete restore with the bell...
