So it was you who won that Montauk Hwy. sign auction...had my eyes on it but it got too expensive near the end. Congrats, that sign rules and it'll go well with your Town of Islip made Sunrise Hwy. sign.

I noticed the sign had faint lettering underneath the Montauk Hwy. layer. What did it say? That was bugging me, I couldn't make it out. At least I'm glad I got this a few days ago at a good price: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nyratk1/68 ... hotostream

(Also the seller that I got the sign from was nearby in Yaphank and lived in the neighborhood notable for being a German-American Bund pro-Nazi summer camp in the 30s, with at least one street once named for Hitler there - and quickly renamed Park Blvd, in the 40s)
I think therefore I am...

Yup...it was me. If I happen to stumble across a sign from LI that's for sale, I go for it
Sure wish I won that old Route 110 sign :Phil:

The lettering underneath is also Montauk Hwy, but upside down. I guess they reused the same sign.

Those are neat signs you got too..close by to where you live. I didn't realize they were for sale.

I stumbled upon the auction, it wasn't worded all too well I guess.

That makes sense with what's underneath it. Although the best example of one of those signs being reused is the signs at Nicolls Rd and Montauk Hwy. One of the signs has been peeling outwards from the bracket for years and you can see that they clearly pasted over a Johnson Ave. sign.

Stole this one off eBay (badly mislabelled hence not that much competition for it...and the paint appears to be original too!

That sign is so small.

Never saw something like that before. What does the "R" stand for?

Another Long Island sign...

NY State Route 27 (Sunrise Highway)

I love the SC sign, an underused color pattern and a nice variant of the state and square motifs. My favorite state route shield is probably Kansas or New Mexico though.

IIRC, the same seller sold a Ferndale Blvd. sign like the Sunrise Hwy. sign a week after I missed the Sunrise Hwy. sign auction, so it probably came from that which would be from the service road in Islip. Ferndale is the first N-S side street east of NY 111.

And if the NY 27 sign you just got is the one off of eBay recently, that rules. I love the stuff that seller has (that's where I got the Dutch Broadway sign from) - lots of good SE Queens/SW Nassau stuff.

Have my own NY 27 sign but it was made by Rice Signs and not road used like yours. It's dang accurate too.

Thanks for the info on the blue sign :good:
Yup, the 27 sign is from that same seller. I too like the signs they have
