Just some observations, much further south today in Kyoto (All of those were tokyo). Signals stay the same everywhere. I did see a 14"+ signal yesterday! It's used on the expressway in Tokyo as a indication of tunnel conditions ahead. Everything so far is 12" heads, and EVERY signal has peds. Newer peds w/ leds do away with colored background w/ white man, and go with either a red or green man. Countdowns do not use numbers, rather a bar graph that gets lower and lower as time goes on. The LED ones The green countdowns are in the red section and vice versa. The older ones that were separate only countdown the time of red remaining, and so far, I've only seen countdowns at Barns Style crosswalks.
Signal style seems to vary very little, just color. Default seems to be gray, but I have some brown. Some intersections have a mix.
Those close cut-aways are default visors. Skewed intersections get tunnels on the skewed legs only. Redundancy is not a priority on side streets, single heads are common. Overhead wiring is standard, with underground "Special"
