First coat of red on the shell and door

Waited for the first coat of paint to dry and then started working on the mounting holes in the back of the shell. I tapped them out to 3/8-16 and then cut them flush with a grinder.

I installed the inner mech box and put the second coat of paint on the back. I also added a second coat of black on the pedestal.

I painted the keyguard and outlined the number plate with the first coat of white. That's all for today.

I worked on all the brass today. Most of the hardware was covered with multiple layers of paint. It was to to point where the hinges didn't want to open and close. I stripped the paint off of everything. My goal was to save as much of the original patina as possible. I did pretty well, but there were a few places where the original patina was removed and the brass had been brought back to its "bright" finish. I wanted to showcase the brass hardware in the finished piece because I think it speaks to the level of quality and workmanship that went into these in the first place. That being said rather than polishing all the hardware I thought a darker worn patina would give everything a more authentic look. I artificially aged all the hardware and lockset in an oven over the course of a day untill I had all the pieces where I wanted them in terms of patina. I tried not to keep the patina uniform, but rather leave it darker in some places and lighter in others in an attempt to match the way it would have aged had it sat for twenty more years.

Overall I am happy with the final result.

I completed the first coat of white for the instructional door lettering and attached the keyguard. The lettering went better than expected. I was anticipating trouble as I had not worked with something this intricate before. Fortunately there were no issues, and although time consuming the whole process was very easy.

I took an opportunity to verify that all electrical connections were solid before I moved on to final painting and touch-up. Thankfully everything tested well, and the three fold mechanism still seems to run just as smoothly as it did the day it was installed. They really did put alot of time and craftsmanship into these pieces.

Project completed.

I have a few touch-up spots, but I think I will wait untill I install the pedestal on the property to address them in case I mark anything else up during transit.

All in all a really fun project. I would enjoy any and all feedback anyone would like to offer.
