Controller assistance

EM, NEMA, whatever - if it controls a traffic signal, you can talk about it here.

We have some Eagle Moduvac components in our shop. They're on display in our little "musuem". Most of these ended up being scrapped and thrown away. I am fascinated by them, all the little tubes and various PCB's, I'd like to fire one up someday.

Hey Steven,
Yeah, the Transyt 1880E is a nice simple to use controller, I have two of them myself. The one thing about the Transyt 1880E's though... If you get one, PULL THE TBC CARD OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE CONTROLLER, and just throw it in the trash. They are all bad. The controller will work fine without it.

Thanks! It is nice to know that I didn't dream that five years (or so) of my life. If you ever need a manual or some tubes let me know.

Steven, you can hardly throw that out there without expanding a bit on it! SO tell us, was an EMS team involved or are we talking a more sedate release of the magic smoke

After I got the signal controller (Got it from Sean @ Traffic Light Wizard; was complete, had the backpanel, loadswitches, loop detectors and conflict monitors and the works), I tried to hook it up to my DUrasig as a test mule.

Well, when hooking up the signal controller to the three-conduit wire I'd built for it. I failed to ask for assistance and accidentally hooked up the live load wire to the ground bus bar on the strip on the backpanel, ONTOP of hooking my grounder wire to the #2 circuit breaker switch.

My hand was flatly against the backpanel and I had my little brother plug it in to the main power supply I had my lights hooked to.

My arm lit up like a roman candle and I got sent flying four feet on my back.

Fried the backpanel and the controller (loadswitches faired out fine)... The whole works was sent into perennial flash mode.

Unfortunately, the damage was too great for me to even try and repair, so I scrapped everything. Still have one load switch (which I recently rediscovered).

Yikes!! Okay, that doesn't sound like fun at all. Glad you just got a shock and nothing worse.

And while obviously an unfortunate incident, would it be too much to ask to have video rolling next time you plug something in? :P

Hey Monster Midi,

The TBC card on mine works fine and doesn't cause any problems. I have also dealt with a few other 1880Es and the TBC cards all worked fine.

Sean,

Do you know what battery these take? Mine died and I'm looking for a replacement. Can't seem to find any documentation on battery type, voltage or amphours.
