Hello from Denver

Postby signal262 on Thu Dec 27, 2012 1:27 am

Hello:

I have owned a few signals over the years, but had to downsize with moves to smaller apartments. Still have my late 1980s Traffic Control Technologies r-y-g 12" model though. I work as a transportation planner but don't have any dealing with signal design or operation.

I am amazed to see so many old Eagle 12"-8"-8" units still in service out here in Colorado.

Can anyone explain to me why Dallas phasing was used for left turns in Texas? What was the perceived advantage?

Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Hello, Rush. Welcome to the forums.

Post some pictures of what you have. Also, there are some members here from Texas, so I am sure that some of them will be able to answer your question.

Hello from Colorado Springs! I work for Econolite down here, but I'm also quite the signal nerd myself!

In a nutshell, Dallas phasing was advantageous because it basically provided the same advantages the current flashing yellow arrow signal has, but in a doghouse form, i.e. you could give a permissive left turn to a movement that would otherwise have a red ball due to a conflicting left turn/through movement going on at the same time.
