Green was the standard color, 2 coats of baked on enamel, unless you requested on another color.

Below are CH art deco door latches.
The top one in each photo is a DT style latch, that leaves the bottom as being a type D latch. DT's don't usually use shims but I have seen some where there is one shin between the door and gear. I have also found anywhere from 5 to as many as 9 shims on any given type D latch.

The DT & D latch gears (worm gears) are different heights, pictured below....the one on the left is a DT and the right is a type D.
Image

On the doors, the easiest way (at a quick glance) to tell the difference is in the notch/recessed/Drip Edge  area at the bottom of the lens opening. The DT style (the one pictured below-laying on top) the visor lip curves and blends into the door. The type D is square where it meets flush with the door.

A better view of how the DT drip edge  curves back into the door.

The type D's had two different cast aluminum reflector frames.
The first was part # HL-6209
Image

The later style was part # HL-P896
Image

The biggest of the differences is in the outer edge. The 6209 was flat and the P896 was more bulky and squared off on the backside. Pictured below, the early HL-6209 on the right w/ the later HL-P896 on the left.

The type D's came with brass hardware. (Lens tabs, visor screws, door screws) And they also had a special tapered door screw different from the DT's. Note: The Type D lens tabs (Brass) are longer than the DT's and have a slight bend (30-40 degree) about 3/16" from the end.

When opening the door, there is a single tab a quarter of the way down on the right hand side that the reflector frame snaps around. On 4-ways it's cast as part of the one piece frame. On single faces it is an aluminum flat bar that is screwed onto the housing.

Pictured is the type D reflector frame clasp which holds it closed.

The type D's did not use a rubber seal (lens gasket) around the lens. Instead they used a cork gasket between the lens and the door.

I have a CH D 4way, but all of the reflector frames are secured with screws. chdude looks at it every time his comes over and says dude! That is an early D. It also has a bottom unit with a part number HL-P275 w/2 electrical connections.
