1960s Staten Island, N.Y. Street Sign

Postby steven1981 on Mon Jul 22, 2013 11:07 pm

I recently received this classic "color-coded" street sign at my doorstep. Labeled as "RATHBUN AVE," the street sign is likely an original from around 1964, and it saw service somewhere in Huguenot on Staten Island. I did not grow up too far from this street, so I remember it well. Nice street sign to reminisce upon. Below, is one picture of both sides of the street sign.

Overall, its condition is good, and one side has some wear and tear and graffiti, in which I intend to leave as-is. Nice "off-the-street" look there.

Yet another  sign for your collection, Steven!

That's interesting graffiti on the backside of it, for sure -- almost looks like a bunch of folks might have signed (as in wrote their signatures upon) it, for some odd reason.

I don't know the street sign's background, but the graffiti is interesting indeed. I agree with your guess. Most of it is illegible. The only portion that I could understand (I think) is what I believe reads "Staten Island was good."
