Yard sale Marbelite

Postby SirMarbelot on Sat Aug 10, 2013 3:26 pm

Passed a yard sale in Hightstown, NJ and my daughter said suddenly, "They have a traffic light, and it's GREEN!!" Lo and behold, it was a nice flat-top with 7" visors and a mix of lenses: red Kopp 77, amber Marbelite 6540(!!), and green Corning type E. Asking $30, I said, "sure" and took it home. Pics later...gotta do some other stuff first.

Here it is...it's an early generation, with the dimples around the bottom wire entrance and on the back. Reflectors are body-mounted....was hoping for the older kind...oh well...

I like the lens mix, actually...probably will keep this as-is. Hey gang, I have some nice Marb stuff available...need to get rid of a few. Watch the For Sale section soon!

Looks like your classic N.J. Marbelite.

Nice acquisition. Kudos to your daughter.

Do you know where it had originally seen service? Being that it is green, I assumed it came from here.

Though I could be wrong.

Does it have any special N.J. characteristics?

The guy who obtained it originally wasn't there for my questioning. His mother and daughter or niece were minding the sale. I'm sure it's a New Jersey piece. I mean, it could conceivably have come from New York state or Connecticut, where green Marbelites were also common, but being at a yard sale smack-dab in the middle of Jersey and all...
